SureCall presents our sold out Membership Launch Party!

Gold glitter falling and shining in front of a blue backdrop.

On December 6, the Calgary Chamber is hosting a sold-out party, to celebrate our growing membership base, announce our new membership model, celebrate the business community, and showcase our collective strength that makes us better together.

This monumental event marks a first of its kind and wouldn’t be possible without the support of presenting sponsor SureCall. SureCall has been a supporter of the Calgary Chamber for years, aligning with core values of uniting businesses and doing good along the way. The Chamber sat down with SureCall CEO and Chair of the Calgary Chamber board of directors Desirée Bombenon to chat about the business, their growing global impact, and why supporting the Chamber is important for the betterment of the city’s ecosystem.

A service to serve businesses

SureCall is a purpose-driven business process outsourcing company that specializes in customer experience. The company utilizes technology to optimize solutions for its clients’ processes and workflows to create efficiencies.

“We do that while providing outstanding service for our clients,” says Bombenon. “Normally, businesses are focused on their core product or service, so how to streamline and be effective while providing an amazing customer experience often gets away from them.”

SureCall provides front-end support: customer integrations, emergency response escalation processes, financial services support, virtual reception, and even healthcare triage.

Founded in 2013 after spinning off from another tech company, PDL Contact Centres, Bombenon had worked with the prior iterations of the company since 1989, working her way up and seeing a new vision for the company.

“I saw a way to change how we do business and the purpose behind what we’re doing,” she says. “It took a few years but the culture that we have now is one of doing well by doing good.”

Working in every industry from small businesses to large Fortune 500 companies and government entities, SureCall has now spread across the globe. “We’re in South America, the UK, South Africa, Ukraine, Singapore, Germany—the applications are limitless. What’s important to us is finding the right partners, that have the same alignment with our core values.”

A global company with global purpose

It’s those core values that set SureCall apart from its competitors. A Certified B Corporation, SureCall has proven the business is meeting the highest standards of verified performance, impacting workers, community, environment, and customers.

“We’re focusing on transforming the world,” says Bombenon. “That’s in our vision statement.” She notes that for the planet to meet its SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) targets, corporations have to get involved.

“Governments, institutions, not-for-profits are all working hard on it, but they don’t have the agility, the resources, or the bandwidth to make those kinds of changes fast enough. Businesses have an obligation to step up and commit to a sustainable future for the benefit of generations to come.”

SureCall is leading the pack, contributing to initiatives around the world, bettering the lives of others in remote and developing communities through their program GoodCall.

Launched in 2016 on the International Day of the Girl, GoodCall was founded on the idea of purpose first and driving change by doing good. It evolved from a local endeavour shared with SureCall’s clients to a global project that’s provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to projects in several countries.

“Two percent of our top-line revenue—not bottom-line—goes directly to our GoodCall program,” she says.

GoodCall supports the Hero Girls Initiative, a program Bombenon designed and launched while a fellow at the Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative, which endeavours to empower and educate women in underserved communities.

“By educating girls, we raise the prosperity of the entire community,” she says. “The program takes a number of girls through self-efficacy and female empowerment, showing them how they can make impact in their community and in their villages.” The girls are taught to be entrepreneurs, creating their own innovation projects, allowing them to become leaders and influencers among their peers.

The program has assisted over 500 girls by providing scholarships, family funding, and educational resources and materials, as well as providing over 100 bicycles for safe transportation to and from school.

“I’ve gone out there to work with the girls. They’ve shown me innovative projects, everything from making dolls to sewing clothes.” She and SureCall also fund micro-loans for women’s groups in Nepal, allowing over 30 businesses to be created and countless women able to stand on their own and empower their own local communities.

Calgary businesses celebrating Calgary

This dedication to improving the lives of others and strengthening the global business community is why SureCall and the Chamber are perfect partners for this upcoming celebration.

“The Chamber’s brand is about being better together,” says Bombenon. “The Chamber allows idea sharing and access to thought leadership through a business lens. I believe that partnerships are crucial to making impact and benefitting all parties.”

Which is what this celebration is all about. Over 500 leaders from the Calgary business community will come together at the Ampersand to mingle and play, celebrating big wins and creating new connections.

“I love Calgary; it’s my home,” adds Bombenon. “Calgary is becoming the epicentre of several industries that are intersecting at the same time. We’re not only a high-spirited entrepreneurial community; we’re also innovators, and I see that as key to becoming a sustainable community.”

With tens of thousands of businesses in Calgary, and an ever-expanding startup scene, the city is poised to be a pivotal entrepreneurial business hub in North America.

“Having an association that allows us to come together and get creative leads to possibilities and world-class initiatives,” she says. “I know what we can do and how important it is that the Calgary business community bolster this city and lead it to great future possibilities.”

“I love what we’re doing,” she adds. “I love my team, I love my city, and I love making a difference. Calgary wins when businesses lean in and work together.”
