Calgary Chamber comments on writ drop; calls on next government to support economic diversification, fiscal responsibility and talent

The following statement on the dropping of the writ is attributable to Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce:

Calgary, May 1, 2023 – “With the dropping of the writ today, the Calgary Chamber is closely watching the provincial election unfold over the next month. We will be watching closely for a focus on thoughtful, business-led policy solutions that will build on our momentum and economic resilience.

“The Chamber’s provincial election platform ACCELERATE: Driving Alberta Forward, which we released back in February, calls on all parties to adopt policies that continue to advance economic diversification opportunities and ensure Alberta remains a competitive jurisdiction for investment while maintaining fiscally prudent. As the province continues to deal with inflationary challenges, we continue to advocate for the parties to put forward solutions aimed at eliminating the talent gap, provide realistic relief to the rising costs faced by businesses as well as commit to investment in strategic infrastructure.

“Businesses need certainty and stability to enable them to risk capital and capitalize on growth opportunities. Everyone benefits when our business community is thriving – from government coffers to employees and not-for-profits, Albertans need a strong and inclusive business environment. And while businesses can’t vote, individuals do, which is why it is imperative that the issues facing the business community are top of mind for both politicians and voters.

“This is a critical election for Calgary and the province. Alberta remains a place of opportunity for businesses and the people behind them and the Calgary Chamber looks forward to working closely with the next provincial government and businesses to ensure a prosperous Alberta for all.”
