CALGARY - The Calgary Chamber of Commerce will contribute $1 million to InterGen Capital, the proven scale-up fund for companies that are ready to take the next big step to grow their business, create jobs and inspire their communities.
Calgary is home to bold, innovative companies who are ready to expand their product and service delivery, and to scale up by growing their domestic market or by entering other markets globally.
“This is about the Chamber walking the talk and being part of the growth story of our city,” says Sandip Lalli, President & CEO of the Calgary Chamber. “When businesses flourish so do the families and communities they serve and employ. This is at the heart of the work that we do at the Chamber. We are proud to be contributing to the InterGen fund and doing our part to grow Calgary’s economy.”
“We are thrilled that the Calgary Chamber is participating in our fund and joining the board as a senior advisor”, says Sandi Gilbert, Managing Director of InterGen. “InterGen was founded with a belief that the talent and expertise responsible for making Calgary the economic envy of the entire continent for the last twenty years can be leveraged to build the companies that will define the next twenty years – and beyond.
“The fund is a vital part of InterGen’s commitment to accelerate the growth and scale of high-potential Calgary companies by pairing them with talented retired and transitioning business talent committed to our province’s future,” says InterGen board chair, Brian Felesky. “We match them through our InterGen Connect technology platform and support them with educational offerings, training and roundtables featuring entrepreneurs, investors and industry experts.”
Scale-up companies, those with an ambitious growth mindset, must manufacture and export their products and services at a larger scale, support multiple clients efficiently, and develop their teams. They do this all the while trying to navigate a murky path towards sustainable growth, and without losing their current market position, agility or resilience.
“As the voice of our business community, we know there are not many well-worn paths that scale-up companies can take. The work that InterGen does to provide funding and intergenerational entrepreneurship changes that,” added Lalli. “The Chamber has always believed this is an investment-worthy city; this is us putting Calgary first and investing back into our community.”
