The ‘AND’ conversation critical to advancing Alberta’s interests as new federal cabinet is appointed

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce welcomes all newly and re-appointed ministers

CALGARY – The Calgary Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate the 36 ministers, both newly and re-appointed to the federal cabinet by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today.

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce stands ready to work with the federal government to build a competitive and prosperous future for Calgarians, Albertans, and all Canadians.

“As we begin this new chapter, let us move forward with vision and decisive action to ensure Canada is competitive, relevant, and nationally and globally responsible,” says Sandip Lalli, President & CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. “Now, more than ever, we must rally to the ‘AND’ by considering both sides of any issue we tackle. We look forward to working with Cabinet to demonstrate just how powerful the ‘AND’ conversation can be.”

In the spirit of advancing the AND conversation, we also look forward to partnering with the Honourable Jim Carr, Special Representative for the Prairies and the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

Earlier this fall, the Calgary and Edmonton Chambers united to release a joint federal election platform, which included five key priorities.

We look forward to working with the following ministers in particular to advance these priorities:

• The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Natural Resources, on the development of environment and climate change policies that stimulate competition and promote innovation in Canada’s natural resource sector.
• The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, and the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities on the expansion of market access and removal of international and internal trade barriers to Canadian goods and services.
• The Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister of Labour on closing Canada’s talent and skills gap, and with the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Indigenous Services on improving the well-being of Indigenous peoples across Canada in the spirit of reconciliation.
• The Honourable Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance on creating a globally competitive tax system that makes Canada a destination of choice for investors, and on planning for our fiscal future with short, medium and long-term financial plans.
