Federal Writ Dropped Today Launching the 2019 Federal Election Campaign

CALGARY, EDMONTON – Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked Governor General Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament and mark the formal start of the writ period. Canadians will head to the polls on October 21, 2019.

Earlier this week, on September 9, 2019, the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and Edmonton Chamber of Commerce released a joint election platform to urge all federal parties seeking election to adopt business-forward policies that enable Alberta, and Canada, to be more competitive. The non-partisan election priorities outline a pathway to contribute to the global fight against climate change, boost trade, increase tax competitiveness, close the skills gap, and address the fiscal imbalance.

Specifically, the platform outlines key 12 recommendations across five pillars for all parties’ consideration: develop environmental and climate policies that stimulate competition, expand market access and trade, create a globally competitive tax system, close the talent and skills gap, and plan for our fiscal future.

The election platform was sent to the federal parties in August.
