Calgary Chamber statement on provincial cabinet shuffle

Calgary, August 25, 2020 – The Calgary Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate and wish the Honourable Doug Schweitzer, the Honourable Kaycee Madu, and the Honourable Tracy Allard every success as they take on their new ministerial roles.

“As we enter the fall and a critical time for our economic recovery, we look forward to working closely with Cabinet and the provincial government to ensure stability and resiliency for our businesses and communities,” says Murray Sigler, interim CEO, Calgary Chamber.

With the Honourable Doug Schweitzer, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation, we look forward to advancing a bold plan for long-term sustainable jobs that includes focusing on innovation, strengthening internal trade, and leading in natural resource development AND solving climate change. The Calgary Chamber would also like to thank the Honourable Tanya Fir for her service in Alberta’s economic development, trade and tourism ministry.

With the Honourable Kaycee Madu, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, we stand ready to work together to deliver certainty for business in Alberta as we work through the recommendations of the Fair Deal Panel’s report.

With the Honourable Tracy Allard, Minister of Municipal Affairs, we look forward to re-imagining the municipal-provincial relationship to ensure success and sustainability for our municipalities, including the exploration of an overhaul of the property tax assessment system.

We believe strongly in the grit and resiliency of Albertans and in our ability to manage through these uncertain times. By working together and harnessing the entrepreneurial spirit that has defined Alberta for generations, we will recover and emerge stronger, together.
