Chamber intern spotlight: Maha Silini

We are proud to support upcoming talent at the Calgary Chamber. This week, we are pleased to introduce a dedicated intern who offers so much to the team.

Maha Silini is completing an eight-month term at the Calgary Chamber as a Policy Analyst Student. She is in her third year at the University of Calgary as a candidate for a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society, concentrating in law. Maha speaks three languages, loves online shopping and her favourite thing to eat is Tunisian Mlokhaya.

Q: What’s your favourite part about working at the Chamber?

A: My favorite part about working at the Chamber is the team. I feel fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues who genuinely care about one another and go above and beyond to offer support. The level of camaraderie and unity within our team is remarkable. We share a common goal of making a positive impact in our community and this shared mission brings us together.The supportive, tightknit nature of our team fosters an environment where we can freely exchange ideas, collaborate and uplift one another. It's inspiring to work with such an incredible group of individuals who consistently demonstrate dedication, professionalism and a sense of care for each other. Their support has not only helped me grow professionally but has also made my overall work experience at the Chamber fulfilling and enjoyable.

Q: What have you learned, or what are you hoping to learn more about while working at the Chamber?

A: Throughout my time working at the Chamber, I've gained valuable insights into the intricate world of policy and regulations. I've learned about the behind-the-scenes workings of policies and how they shape the business landscape. Additionally, I've been able to delve into the inner workings of various businesses, expanding my knowledge of their operations, strategies and challenges. This exposure has been invaluable in broadening my understanding of the business world and enhancing my professional expertise. I'm excited to continue learning more about these areas and deepening my knowledge of policy, regulations and the dynamics of businesses within the Chamber's vibrant ecosystem.

Q: Do you have any major accomplishments or milestones from your internship that you would like to share?

A: During my internship at the Chamber, I've had numerous opportunities to contribute in meaningful ways. One of my major accomplishments was the chance to write and publish an article on behalf of the Chamber. It was a rewarding experience to represent the organization's voice and share insights that would benefit the community and stakeholders.

Q: What are your career goals post-graduation?

A: After graduation, my career goals are to dive deeper into policy. I'm eager to work in a role where I can actively contribute to shaping policies that make a positive impact. I want to gain experience in this field for a few years and really get my hands dirty. Eventually, I have my sights set on law school, as I believe it will equip me with the knowledge and skills to have an even bigger influence in the realms of policy and law. It's an exciting journey ahead and I can't wait to see where it takes me!

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years? What’s the big career dream?

A: In ten years, I envision myself kicking back and sipping on a mocktail while enjoying the serene beauty of a beach somewhere. However, my biggest career dream extends beyond personal enjoyment. It is driven by a desire to repay my parents for the immense sacrifices they made for me. They have supported me throughout my journey and I aspire to provide them with the comfort and happiness they deserve.

I also want to make a difference back home in Tunisia. I want to contribute to the betterment of my people by creating opportunities and uplifting those in need. It's a big dream, but one that motivates me every day to work hard and strive for success.

Q: What makes you ‘you?’ What are your favourite things to do outside of work?

A: Being 'me' is all about finding joy in the simple things and making the most of life's little moments. Outside of work, you can usually find me enjoying quality time with my favorite people. Whether it's sharing laughs and catching up on shows with my best friend or enjoying a cozy meal with my partner, those are the moments that truly define me.

When I’m not busy doing nothing, I thrive on the excitement of discovering cool, new spots hidden within our city. Whether it's stumbling upon a charming café, a hidden park or an artsy corner, the thrill of exploring these unique places truly embodies who I am. It's like a treasure hunt that feeds my curiosity and allows me to connect with the city.
