The Fall Economic Update by the Federal Minister of Finance, the Honourable Bill Morneau, took some important first steps to address the competitiveness issues that Canadian businesses are facing. While this was a good start, the Chamber is still concerned that the government has not addressed the fundamental market access and competitiveness issues that are negatively impacting Canada’s Economy.
In our 2019 budget submission to the Finance Minister we provide four recommendations that we believe the federal government should adopt to address these concerns and set Canada up for long-term growth in an increasingly competitive global market.
Recommendations include improving tax competitiveness (including updating the SR&ED program), improving the regulatory environment, supporting small and medium enterprise growth and improving Canada’s workforce productivity.
