With such a great attitude, it should come as no surprise that the company has grown. In 2016, the couple began with one small moving van. Today, they own a fleet of trucks and hire as many as 15 workers during the warm months.

Taking inventory for the perfect move

When customers choose Personal Movers, Ruben’s team takes a comprehensive list of the items to be moved. “We then apply a specialized software program that calculates the volume and weight of the move, based on the list,” Ruben says. “The preset software calculates the number of workers who’ll be needed on the job and the amount of hours the move will take.”

Their ‘personal’ touch lives up to its business name. When Ruben’s crew is ready to move out a home, for instance, they cover the floors and wrap all items, including furniture, before loading them onto the trucks—a feature not all moving companies do. “This way we move all valuables safely to a customer’s new home,” Ruben says.

Personal Movers do long-distance moving anywhere in Alberta, regardless of the scope of a move. They also excel at commercial moving, which the team does quickly and professionally.

For a minimum charge, Personal Movers do dump runs, whether a client is moving or not. “We send our customers a guide to help them sort through their spring-cleaning,” Ruben says. “It’s a good moment to declutter and we can bring discarded items either to the landfill or a place for donations.”

Their packing/unpacking service is rare in the industry, sparing customers hundreds of hours of work and stress. “We bring all the packing materials for every type of item, from fragile to larger pieces, including pianos and pool tables,” Ruben says.

For customers in need of storage solutions, Personal Movers has partnered with one of the largest storage companies in Canada. “We try to give customers the best storage solution possible to keep their belongings safe and dry for as long as they need,” Ruben says, “We try to take the stress away, no matter what service customers require.”

Calgary: The right move

As a new Chamber member who loves working and living in Calgary, Ruben values the opportunity to connect with the local business community. “It’s a good way to stay informed about industry developments,” he says.

Ruben’s vision for the future includes expanding his company across Canada in major cities, starting with Vancouver or Toronto. “Our goal is to lead in the moving industry by upholding our values and high standards of service,” Ruben says.
