Eventcombo amplifies events for the Calgary business community

When it comes to creating magic behind the scenes of events, Eventcombo has transformed the landscape for attendees, event management and businesses alike. With their cutting-edge software streamlining the process of event planning and execution, these Calgary newcomers are growing rapidly—and for good reason.

With the amount of fragmentation, which exists in event workflows before, during and after events, Eventcombo uniquely consolidates all tasks and processes into one simplified platform with over 200 native features and API integrations.

“The word combo is a great descriptor for the company because we are an all-in-one solution for before, during and after events,” says CEO Saroosh Gull, “combining everything from event planning, task and budget management, registration and payment gateways all the way to on-site badging and check-in management.”

“Eventcombo automates workflows for any corporate use case. We have become the best friend of event planners and event managers.”

A vision coming to fruition

As an individual who thoroughly enjoys building products, it only made sense for Saroosh to lead a company making serious waves in the market.

After relocating Eventcombo’s HQ to Calgary from the US, Saroosh feels it was a wise decision. “What we found here is that there’s a really strong ecosystem where if you’re bold and making bold moves, you’ll be supported.”

Acknowledging the many challenges and opportunities that have come with making Eventcombo a reality, it isn’t lost on Saroosh the amazing journey it has been so far. “Not many people have the privilege of seeing their vision and ideas come to fruition, so I am grateful.”

“What we found in Calgary is that there’s a really strong ecosystem where if you’re bold and making bold moves, you’ll be supported.”

Eventcombo's foray into global markets involved a meticulous analysis of diverse locations. Leveraging market research, they delved into event challenges, studying industry trends, and identifying specific gaps in each market. Understanding the nuanced needs of event planners, they tailored their approach to address these unique challenges.

Calgary and Alberta, with its thriving event footprint, emerged as a strategic expansion point. "We're excited to contribute to the vibrant event industry globally from right here in Calgary, bridging gaps with our innovative platform," Saroosh adds.

A partnership with the Calgary Chamber

Originally founded in Jersey City, New Jersey, Eventcombo made the decision to relocate their main operations to Canada. With Calgary being their chosen city for their North American headquarters, Saroosh explains that Calgary was a natural choice.

“You’ve got such innovative, bold and aggressive organizations that are so inclusive and supportive and play a really important role in the ecosystem,” he says.

Not only have they found value in being surrounded by the ambition of Calgary’s business community, but they look forward to bringing even more value in return.

“We are looking forward to investing upwards of $10 million here in Alberta by creating another 200–250 jobs which means hiring 8 to 10 people per quarter,” says Saroosh. With these goals top of mind, it was important for Eventcombo to connect and partner with the Calgary Chamber and immerse themselves in the local business community.

“The Chamber has really been behind us, supporting us and being a megaphone for us. We’re really excited for having this unique partnership with the Calgary Chamber and want to reciprocate and add value to the Chamber and all of its members,” says Saroosh.

“Supporting the growth of the local tech sector is important to us, so when we learned Eventcombo was choosing Calgary as its home, we were eager to strike up a partnership that would allow our guests to have the same seamless experience they have come to expect from us, while simultaneously supporting the local innovation ecosystem,” says Melanie McDonald, Director of Marketing and Engagement with the Calgary Chamber.

“The Calgary Chamber is known for hosting over 60 events each year, and we are always praised for a swift check-in process, even when we are expecting hundreds of attendees,” she says. “We are excited to begin our partnership with Eventcombo and look forward to supporting them as they look to transform the event landscape in Calgary and across the globe.”

An aggressive approach to growth

With an increase of over 400% in SaaS sales over the last year, Eventcombo anticipates even more growth on the horizon.

“The demand is being satisfied by our innovation,” he says. “We’re in growth stage and being in Calgary specifically plays on that strategy where Calgary is also in a growth stage in its journey towards becoming a tech hub and tech ecosystem.”

Noting how they put concerted efforts towards being thoughtful in their approach to inclusivity and fostering a supportive environment, Saroosh explains that Alberta aligned with a lot of their values and goals.

“From a corporate scale-up perspective, I think we complement Alberta’s culture in that sense. That bold, very aggressive shoot for the stars mentality resembles our culture as a company—very fast and aggressive towards growth.”

Following the milestones they’ve achieved in North America, Saroosh looks forward to bringing Eventcombo to the world stage. Looking ahead to the next three to five years, Saroosh anticipates having a larger market share in several other geographies, including Europe and Latin America.

“It’s about investing more, creating more employment, creating more market share and continuing our expansion”.
