Calgary Chamber commends Trans Mountain on expansion
The following statement is attributable to Deborah Yedlin, President and CEO at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, on the completion of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project.
“On behalf of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and the Calgary business community, I congratulate Trans Mountain on the successful completion of the Trans Mountain Expansion, a project that underscores the importance of reliable energy infrastructure for our economy that opens new markets for Alberta’s oil sands producers.
“This is a significant milestone not only for Trans Mountain but also for Calgary, Alberta and all of Canada. With the expectation of global energy demand increasing to 47% by 2050, maintaining Canadian competitiveness in the context of the global energy landscape is crucial. Critically, the completion of this pipeline demonstrates Canada can build big, complex projects, which, in this case, will benefit both province and country in the form of higher prices and tax revenues. Additionally, it frees up rail capacity for other sectors that rely on rail to transport products to markets for export.
“Looking ahead, we encourage the Government of Canada to consider how the future of the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion can advance economic reconciliation and economic prosperity for communities along the project. We also encourage the federal government to establish greater regulatory certainty to ensure future national infrastructure projects can be built, and to de-risk projects that will be required for long-term economic growth.”
